[Roleplay] Getting to Know You

Title: Getting to Know You
What: Loki Laufeyson ([personal profile] allfatherissues; Marvel Movieverse) visits Amelia Steinbeck ([personal profile] recluserose; Original Character) at her home and finds that she is studying an interesting subject.
Notes: SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's almost Valentine's Day let me shamelessly ship.

The wind chimes made only the slightest sound as the God of Mischief entered Amelia's house. For all the effort the witch put into enchanting her home in addition to the older magic that was already present, Loki never struggled to enter quietly. Amelia had a reputation for being a very skilled and talented magic user, but of course in the face of his own magic she had ways to go.

His reasons for his random visits could not be exactly pinpointed. Amusingly enough, it wasn't as if Amelia was particularly happy whenever he came in without announcing himself properly, but he noted that she never objected to having him around or attempted to push him away unless he crossed a line that was clearly drawn. Loki could at least admit that she made for amusing conversation. Amelia was an austere woman who put on the appearance of someone who would not be toppled, but he had found out that she was in fact quite easily ruffled. They had an uneasy acquaintance, but as of late it seemed to fall under a category of pleasantness.

The house was quiet. Loki turned a corner to enter the hallway easily locating the door that lead to the library. As he had suspected, there were strewn piles of books and papers, a clear indication that she was working inside. He remembered where she usually kept her desk and walked towards it saying,

"Now, now is my presence so detestable that you hole yourself in here instead of greeting your guest--?" His sentence was cut short when he found the witch, oddly enough, sleeping against one of the bookshelves, hair down and arms wrapped around her knees. It was a complete contrast with her usual diligent self who seemed to always be alert. Her soft breathing was all that could be heard throughout the library. Loki raised a brow, but decided not to wake her up just yet. His eyes did a quick sweep across the floor and he noticed that many of the books surrounding her had been bookmarked. The god picked one up and idly glanced at the title.

Nordic Gods and Heroes.

He picked up another.

The Norse Myths.

In fact, nearly all the books in Amelia's general vicinity were filled with stories about Asgard and the deities that were associated with the Nine Worlds. What was more interesting to him however was how the bookmarked pages all had one thing in common; they all had something to do with him in particular. Whether it was a small mention or a complete tale of one of his supposed exploits, she had marked the page in some way as if saving it to reference for later.

Now why on earth...? Ah. It didn't take long for Loki to recall a conversation that occurred not too long ago.

"So you've been teaching human literature for around three years now? I would imagine you having an occupation that wasn't quite so dull Amelia," remarked Loki. It was a particularly warm afternoon at Amelia's house and the witch was outside in her garden under a tree with her nose in a book as usual with Loki standing nearby. She did take a moment to give an annoyed glare at the god though.

"I believe I'm free to choose what occupation I like, thank you very much." Loki's eyes flickered with amusement at the expense of her pride.

"But of course. Did I ever suggest that you weren't allowed to do as you like?"

Instead of retorting, Amelia fell silent examining the god for a moment.

"Something on your mind my dear?" Amelia let out a sigh running a hand through her hair.

"It just occurred to me that you seem to know more about me than I realized. I think I've become too lenient in answering your questions."

"Silver tongued remember?" Loki reminded her with a grin.

"That may be, but even so... I don't think I know as much about you."

"And...?"

"I don't know what to ask. That would be the point I was trying to make," she said with some reluctance.

"Well," he said lightly, "you may ask whatever you wish."

She had left the topic alone back then, but it wasn't difficult for Loki to realize what the purpose of these books were for. A smile of of an inscrutable nature spread across his face as he looked at Amelia's sleeping form. She was more of a busybody than he had thought. Somehow her attempts to ask the right questions in able to pin down a more exact understanding of his character was almost admirable. Not that he would make it easy for her.

With a smooth motion with his palm, a book suddenly fell on top of Amelia's head, causing her to yelp and wake up with a start. Amelia saw the god standing in front of her and turned red with anger.

"Who...!? LOKI!! That was completely unnecessary, you...!!"

"You should be glad I didn't use a heavier book," Loki said soothingly walking and then kneeling down on one knee in front of her. He held out the book on Norse mythology.

"Now I believe you had questions about me?"
