[ROLEPLAY] PROLOGUE

Title: ALT.distort prologue
What: FATE/STAY NIGHT AU, I HAVE LEAPED FROM HIGHER TOWERS OF SHAME THAN THIS
Notes: So when Kinoko Nasu isn't looking...

There's somethin' about a peaceful death that doesn't sit well with me.

A low roar of thunder rumbles in the distance and the sky begins to darken. Clouds roll in, obscuring the last remaining fragments of sunlight. It was gonna be a heavy one from what I could tell. From my perch on a tree, I can see the lights of the buildings in the distant city begin to glow even from here. I’m no Archer class, but my eyesight as a Heroic Spirit ain’t something to turn a nose up at.

Man... What the hell am I doing here? Not that I plan to dwell on that question for long though. I'm just surprised I lasted this long without an anchor, if only because there's a sense that the lands here are feeling irregular, but it's not gonna last me. Any regrets? Nah. Can't regret anything you weren't part of in the first place and I'd be returning soon at the rate I was going. Although, I admittedly had a feeling I had played my part in another picture at some point so I didn't really die passively if that gut feeling is correct.

Chest is burning.

The smell of blood.

The scenery in front of me is falling apart and the flames swallow everything including...

... Yeah. That'd do anyone in. Sure, the details are fuzzy, but again, why worry? For now, I'll just enjoy the rain during my last few moments.

...

Someone's coming. Either they're bad at staying hidden or they're announcing their arrival because their aura is barely suppressed. I'm a little interested. Maybe they sensed me instead so I keep an eye open as the rain begins to pour, wondering who will be able to get one last glance at this Servant??

... A woman approaches. Her hair is long, dark, and reaches past her back. While she wears a coat, she doesn't have anything to cover herself from the downpour so she's already soaked to the bone. It was as if she didn't care. A bit of a pitiful sight, really, but I couldn't really gauge her mood from here. The distance between us is growing smaller until she stops right in front of the tree I'm sitting on. Now that she was directly in front of me... I still couldn't read her.

It was as if there was nothing, but a melancholic emptiness that stood before me.

For what seems like a few long minutes, not a word nor sound is exchanged between us. The rain that pelted the ground and between the leaves of the surrounding trees is all the voices that could be heard for miles around. It could have been left at that, but somehow, one last remark felt appropriate, at least to see if she actually saw me or not.

"Hey, little miss. You just gonna stare, or can you at least give one last prayer before I leave?"

She moves slightly and then finally looks up.

Blue.

In the stark greyness of the rainy skies and clouds, those clear blue eyes is what catches me by surprise. They gaze back at me, steady and unwavering, like an unfathomable ocean.

And then she speaks up.

"Don't leave. Not yet."

She speaks a different language, but I can understand it. There's no strength in her body and her voice is soft and can barely be heard over the rain. But she isn't completely empty. There's something that could be called resolve in those eyes of her's.

So I stay.

So I may have done something really, really stupid.

Fuyuki City has historically been a land where you're bound to run into something magical at one point or another. From what I was told, it's overseen by a prominent magus family and its leylines were rich and potent. But magic affairs was the last thing on my mind when I came to study abroad. It was just a convenient location just in case I had issues with...

Well, I'm a magus, if only by definition; I have circuits and I trained under some experienced teachers. But I'm not proud of it. I prefer it being the least important aspect about me. Although take that away then what's left...?

Again. I prefer not to make a big fuss out of it. My teacher made it very clear, however, that while my ability to ignore things I don't like is admirable, it wouldn't help me out in the long run. Magi would inevitably run into situations where their abilities would be the only thing they could rely on instead of the mundane and the normal. Ignoring a problem, especially that of a supernatural magnitude would only result in dire consequences.

I understand the point. I really, really do. But what the hell am I going to do with this problem dressed in blue tights, silver runes and armor, that's standing in my apartment and glancing around my place? Fine, I didn't ignore him. We reached an agreement and now, one way or another, he's bound to me. Step one complete. Step two...?

"Oi. You know, I don't know your name yet."

Oh. There's step two.

"... Lien. Lien Kha."
